Poverty + Violence

The less money you have the more likely it is that you may be vulnerable to violence. Poverty limits access to basic needs, such as (secure) housing, and lead to women being in danger of violence. People who commit violence often target for their vulnerability due to poverty.  Women need money in our own hands to be able to leave a violent partner or family.  Women also need resources that help us escape and recover from violence, such as refuges, legal aid, helplines. For these reasons, we have been campaigning against the austerity policies of the past few years, which take away welfare benefits and housing, among other vital financial resources.
